Beauty of the Month - Adrienne Metzig

October, 2024

From the moment I met Adrienne, we immediately connected on such an authentic level. Although I haven’t known her for long, our conversations have always been meaningful and heartfelt. I feel incredibly lucky to work with someone like her. I deeply respect the way she lives her life with intention and mindfulness, always bringing a sense of purpose and care to everything she does.

How did you break out of the box of perfectionism?

When healing childhood trauma coincided with experiencing multiple losses and the roller coaster ride of perimenopause, chasing high beauty standards was no longer a realistic option for me. I knew that I needed to garner all my energy to attend to my inner healing and that it was time to focus my resources on what was going on within and learn to relax more about my outer appearance.

What advice would you give your younger self about the pressure to be perfect?

I would say connect with your innate worth and detach from external praise. Regularly identify your values and priorities, and let those guide how you spend your time, energy, and money. There's no need to prove yourself

to anyone else or let others' values dictate yours.

How has your perception of beauty and success changed over the years?

Watching my body transform with age, changing hormones, and a few cycles of emotional eating has challenged me to redefine how I see myself and others. I notice when kindness, honesty, and integrity make someone the most attractive person in the room. Success for me at this phase of my life is simply keeping my commitments to myself and others and raising my multiple rescue animals to help

them have the best quality of life I can provide. :-)

What helps you live authentically?

Being deliberate about holding authenticity as a value and noticing when my actions don't line up with it. When that happens, I push the reset button, back up and try it again. Letting go of the expectations and judgments of others is key for me being willing to allow others to see me as I truly am.

How do you practice self-love?

Going to bed early enough to wake up without an alarm. Having intentional daily priorities helps me end (most) days feeling good about where my energy was spent. Being aware of my needs, taking steps to honor them

and surrounding myself with people who honor me as well. I try to practice self-compassion and take

every opportunity to laugh out loud.

What are ways you honor your body?

Some days it's just about accomplishing the basics - moisturizing my skin and drinking plenty of water. I give myself regular stretch breaks to keep my body moving. When my body is struggling through physical limitations or injuries, I do what I can - walk barefoot in the grass, stretch up to the sun, throw toys for the dogs and remember to breathe.
